Smither Siblings Honored

The Oakland Christian School Wall of Faith recognizes alumni who have dedicated their lives to Christian ministry and have been involved in full-time ministry for at least ten years.  At our annual LifeBuilders Celebration we had the privilege of recognizing all of the Smither siblings with this honor.

Maggie (‘92) is married to Jason Dunn, and they have nine children.  She and Jason are the founders and CEO’s of House of Providence, a therapeutic home for minors who are wards of the State of Michigan and who find themselves languishing without a prospect of adoption. Maggie and Jason were pastors for almost 15 years before they founded House of Providence.  Maggie has a Masters in Counseling.

Becca (Honorary) has dedicated her life to bless others, serve Jesus, and to live life in joy and purity of heart. Her forty years have helped to focus the Smither family to love more and to give freely through Dutton Farm, where Becca is a mentor/teacher, known as “Little Mom”. She is a founder and a 25-year member of the Friends Group. Becca has worked in the kitchen at the Rochester OPC for the past 10 years. She is a strong competitor in Special Olympics, winning as a runner, softball thrower, and swimmer. Becca loves to dance, and her artwork has successfully sold and been featured on tour all around Michigan. Becca is a loving part of our OCS family.

Chris (‘97) is married to Liz, and they have five children. He is the founder/owner of Dynamic Heating and Cooling. Chris has taken several missions trips to Haiti to build structures/houses/schools for impoverished children. He also serves on the Board of Key of Hope, which strives to bring hope to the children of Durban, South Africa that have been orphaned or otherwise affected by HIV and AIDS.

Katie (’00) is the Founder/Owner of Kate Dubuc Photography.  She runs a special needs ministry at Brightmoor Church.  She is married to Josh Dubuc and has three step-children.

Jenny (‘02) is married to Brent Brown.  They have five children and are also foster parents. Jenny is the Co-Founder and COO of Dutton Farm,  a non-profit ministry that educates, trains, employs, and celebrates adults with developmental disabilities.   She is also on the Board of Joni and Friends Ministries.

Dan Smither (’91) and his wife (Rachel Gunn Smither (‘92), founders of Key of Hope, were previously inducted in 2007.

Hear From Our Parents, Teachers, and Alumni

We've been at OCS for nearly a decade. The school has an outstanding staff and passion for education and the gospel. My girls are receiving an outstanding education.  I'd highly recommend OCS!
- Jason Morga, Dad
We have developed relationships with other parents as well as the administration and staff, and we see Oakland Christian School as a community that lives open-handedly and truly locks arms with one another to serve inside and outside of school.
