What grades do you offer?
OCS offers a private, co-educational program for students in preschool through 12th grade. Our Early Education Center offers preschool, pre-kindergarten 4, and young 5’s programs. Our Elementary school is Kindergarten (both half day and full day options are available) through 5th grade. Our secondary school includes middle school (grades 6-8) and high school (grades 9-12).
What curriculum do you use?
Curriculum is selected following a review of available materials for content and structure, keeping in mind our philosophy of Christian education. The high school program engages students in core coursework while offering a wide variety of electives such as S.T.E.M. Do you offer a language immersion program?
Oakland Christian School partners with Add.a.lingua, dual language curriculum experts, to deliver a comprehensive Spanish immersion program. This program develops students to become bilingual and biliterate by fifth grade. Classes are taught by professionally trained, Christian teachers in their native Spanish language. Because second language acquisition is best at an early age, students can enter this program in preschool, kindergarten, or first grade.
Are you accredited?
Yes, Oakland Christian School is accredited through AdvanceEd and through Christian Schools International (CSI).
What is your enrollment class size?
We have two classes in each grade in the elementary school. We offer full and half day kindergarten classes that are limited to 18 students per teacher. There is a maximum enrollment in grades 1-5 of 25 students per class. Grades 6-12 enrollment is limited to 60 students.
Do you offer hot lunch?
Hot lunch is prepared daily by our Food Service Department. Lunch varies each day and the monthly menu is published for our parents and students to see.
Do you offer after school care?
Yes, we offer before & after school care for Preschool - 8th grade.
Do you offer foreign language?
In addition to our Spanish immersion program, Spanish is taught in each of our classes preschool through the 5th grade. Currently, we offer a survey of Spanish and French in the middle school with offerings of four years of Spanish and French at the high school level.
What athletic programs are offered at OCS?
OCS offers 20 varsity sports teams, 4 junior varsity teams, 12 middle school sports teams, and several elementary sports teams and clubs. We believe athletics play an important role in developing healthy bodies, growing in wholesome, inter-personal relationships, developing maturity in handling pressures and living with the reality of success and failure.
Do you have a Music/Fine Arts program?
Our extensive Visual & Performing Arts programs provides students opportunities to discover God's creative process and develop the many ways He has gifted each individual. Our students receive national awards for art, produce and perform classic Broadway and dramatic shows, earn the highest marks in vocal music, strings and band competitions, and publish graphic art and videos used by Christian ministries around the world.
Do you have a Counseling Office?
Yes. The Oakland Christian School Counseling Office provides resources for student growth and encourages the God-given gifts and talents of all students in Kindergarten through 12th grade. The counseling staff is professionally trained to offer students and their families assistance in the areas of personal/group counseling, college and career readiness, standardized testing, academic intervention, and registrar duties.
Do your students participate in any Standardized Testing Programs?
K-12 students are administered the NWEA Assessment; 8th and 10th the ACT Aspire; and 11th grade the ACT, PSAT, and SAT.
What is your church affiliation?
Oakland Christian School is an inter-denominational school with over 81 churches represented in our student body.
How are you governed?
OCS is governed by a school board, which is elected by parents.
How are you funded?
Tuition covers our operating expenses. School fundraising gifts from individuals, businesses and other organizations provide funds for scholarships, curricular and classroom enhancements, and capital projects.
