About OCS

Board of Directors

The Oakland Christian School Board consists of nine men and women from a wide variety of occupations, backgrounds, and student age representation. We seek to serve the school strategically, subject to God’s direction, with a Christ-centered spirit of unity. Members are selected by the Board each year to serve three-year terms that begin and end in the month of September, and the Board considers both new and returning Board members to fill open positions.

2024-25 Board Members

Brian Franey (Board Chair)

Brian is a partner with Plante Moran, and the lead of the firm’s financial services practice. A graduate of Wayne State University, he and his wife, Lisa, have two daughters, one recently graduated from Oakland Christian and one is enrolled in high school at Oakland Christian. The Franey family attends Woodside Bible Church, Lake Orion campus.

Deep Hope: My deep hope is that OCS will be a place where students grow both academically and spiritually, families are nurtured and blessed, and all are equipped to make a lasting impact for Christ, shaping generations to come.

Dale Ermshler (Treasurer)

Dale Ermshler is Vice President of Crane Technologies, where he has been for nearly 30 years. Dale is a graduate of Hope College. He and his wife Kristin were married in 1993 and the Ermshler family has attended Auburn Hills Christian Center since 1995. Dale served on the AHCC board for 15 years prior to joining the OCS board. The Ermshlers have been an OCS family since 2007. Dale and Kristin have three children: Katelyn (’21), Andrea (’23), and Daniel (’27).

Deep Hope: My Deep Hope is that OCS is a school where students, staff, and families learn to walk more like Jesus every single day; and that our highest goal is to help every student discover and develop their unique God-given talents and abilities so they may go out and impact others for Christ.

Kris Lucido (Secretary)

Kris Lucido has a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Western Michigan University. Kris and Sebastian, her husband, have been married for 32 years. Their seven children are all Oakland Christian alumni. She has been blessed with seven grandchildren. The Lucido family worships at Oakland Church.

Deep Hope: That each student will know their identity in Christ and walk in the confidence of being a child of a King! I pray they discover the Lord’s promises and walk in authority.

Amber Budzinski

Amber graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Sciences from Grand Valley State University and a Master of Science degree in Physician Assistant Studies from the University of Detroit Mercy. She has been a practicing Emergency Medicine Physician Assistant for the last 14 years. Amber and Jesse, her husband of 15 years, have 3 children currently enrolled at OCS and another one who will start Kindergarten next year. The Budzinski family attends Oakland Church, where Amber is the director of the Girls Ministries Program.

Deep Hope: My deep hope is that each and every OCS student would know they were made in the image of God and that he perfectly and uniquely designed them for the purpose he has for their life. That as they build a strong foundation on the Word of God during their time at OCS, they would be encouraged to use and strengthen the God-given gifts he has placed inside of them to walk out their calling and be Heaven’s ambassadors here on Earth. My greatest desire for the students and staff is that when they reflect on their time spent at OCS, they see that their experiences in academics, athletics, administration, and events were all centered around the name of Jesus.

Brian Fenstermaker

Brian has a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) from Cedarville University. Brian has been married to Melissa for 18 years and has one child who attends Oakland Christian School in the Spanish immersion program. The Fenstermaker family attends the River-Waterford Church.

Deep Hope: Oakland Christian School teaching from a biblical perspective provides definitive truth to students who are the young salt and light in the world. To prepare young minds and protect them from an increasingly immoral world that is continually attacking Biblical values. The student's faith should be strengthened through the educational process of learning science, math, and history. Seeing God is very real, and his fingerprints can be undeniably seen through intelligent design. This becomes part of the foundation which their faith is built upon. Helping the students understand they have a Godly purpose. They are not an accident, and they have amazing worth to God, and they do not need society’s approval to feel valued or to validate their existence.

Michelle Rowe

Michelle graduated from Pensacola Christian College with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and from Walsh College with a master’s in finance.  Michelle has been married to Michael Rowe for 18 years, and their two children are enrolled in Oakland Christian School High School. The Rowe family attends The River Church in Holly, where they actively serve in the youth group and various other ministries.

Deep Hope: That students, parents, teachers, staff, and faculty develop true deep relationships rooted in God’s Word and show His non-judgmental love to our community.

Kurt Sabin

Kurt holds a business degree from Baker College, specializing in experiential design. He is the founder and principal of GRIT Obstacle Training, a calisthenics training facility as well as CQS AI,  a marketing automation firm. Kurt and his wife, Roxana, are proud parents of a child at Oakland Christian School, and their family is actively involved in the Clarkston Community Church.

Deep Hope: Cultivate a vibrant, Christ-centered learning environment that embodies biblical truths and inspires students to challenge moral relativism. Empower each student to discover and embrace their unique calling in God’s plan for their lives.

Joy Thomassen

Joy has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Deaf Culture Studies from North Central University, a Master of Science in Education from Capella University, and teaches international students online.  Joy and Matthew, her husband of 19 years, have three children enrolled at Oakland Christian School. The Thomassen family attends Lifepoint Christian Church.

Deep Hope: By being unified to God’s heart and action, we will enter His eternal covenant of closeness and goodness for generations (Jeremiah 32:39-40).

Board Meetings

We welcome hearing from OCS parents. OCS Board of Directors meetings begin at 6:30 pm and provide up to 30 minutes of Public Comment time just after the commencement of each meeting. If you are an OCS parent who is interested in addressing the Board, we ask that one week prior you please email either the Superintendent (sbrock@oaklandchristian.com) or Board Chair (board@oaklandchristian.com) stating your name, grades of your children, and the topic of your comments. This allows us to properly allocate time to our agenda for that evening.

Scheduled board meetings can be found on the OCS School Calendar.
