Board of Trustees

The Oakland Christian School Board consists of eleven men and women from a wide variety of occupations, backgrounds, and student age representation. We seek to serve the school strategically, subject to God’s direction, with a Christ-centered spirit of unity. Members are selected by the Board each year to serve three-year terms that begin and end in the month of September, and the Board considers both new and returning Board members to fill open positions.

23-24 Board Members

Deep Hope: That students, parents, teachers, staff, and faculty develop true deep relationships rooted in God’s Word and show His non-judgmental love to our community

Dale Ermshler is Vice President of Crane Technologies, where he has been for nearly 30 years. Dale is a graduate of Hope College. The Ermshlers have been an OCS family since 2007. Dale and Kristin have three children: Katelyn (’21), Andrea (’23), and Daniel (’27).

Deep Hope: My Deep Hope is that OCS is a school where students, staff, and families learn to walk more like Jesus every single day; and that our highest goal is to help every student discover and develop their unique God-given talents and abilities so they may go out and impact others for Christ.

Their seven children are all Oakland Christian alumni. In the last year, she has been blessed with five grandchildren. The Lucido family worships at Oakland Church.

Deep Hope: That each student will know their identity in Christ and walk in the confidence of being a child of a King! I pray they discover the Lord’s promises and walk in authority.

Amber Budzinski

Amber graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Sciences from Grand Valley State University and a Master of Science degree in Physician Assistant Studies from the University of Detroit Mercy. She has been a practicing Emergency Medicine Physician Assistant for the last 14 years. Amber and Jesse, her husband of 15 years, have 3 children currently enrolled at OCS and another one who will start Kindergarten next year. The Budzinski family attends Oakland Church, where Amber is the director of the Girls Ministries Program.

Deep Hope: My deep hope is that each and every OCS student would know they were made in the image of God and that he perfectly and uniquely designed them for the purpose he has for their life. That as they build a strong foundation on the Word of God during their time at OCS, they would be encouraged to use and strengthen the God-given gifts he has placed inside of them to walk out their calling and be Heaven’s ambassadors here on Earth. My greatest desire for the students and staff is that when they reflect on their time spent at OCS, they see that their experiences in academics, athletics, administration, and events were all centered around the name of Jesus.

Brian Fenstermaker

Brian has a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) from Cedarville University. Brian has been married to Melissa for 18 years and has one child who attends Oakland Christian School in the Spanish immersion program. The Fenstermaker family attends the River-Waterford Church.

Deep Hope: Oakland Christian School teaching from a biblical perspective provides definitive truth to students who are the young salt and light in the world. To prepare young minds and protect them from an increasingly immoral world that is continually attacking Biblical values. The student's faith should be strengthened through the educational process of learning science, math, and history. Seeing God is very real, and his fingerprints can be undeniably seen through intelligent design. This becomes part of the foundation which their faith is built upon. Helping the students understand they have a Godly purpose. They are not an accident, and they have amazing worth to God, and they do not need society’s approval to feel valued or validate their existence.

Jason Megie

Jason is a licensed Realtor of over 20 years and owns his own brokerage. Jason and his wife, Jennifer, have four children, one of whom currently attends Oakland Christian School. The Megie family attends Bridgewood Church in Clarkston.

Deep Hope: All students at OCS will know Jesus personally and portray His love in their actions and speech.

Kurt Sabin

Kurt has a business degree from Baker College with a focus on experiential design and is the founder and principal of GRIT Obstacle Training. Kurt and his wife, Roxana, have one child attending Oakland Christian School. The Sabin family attends Waterford Community Church.

Deep Hope: To create a Christ-centered experiential learning environment at OCS that reinforces biblical truths and challenges moral relativism while providing the opportunity for students to discover and pursue God’s calling in their lives.

Joy Thomassen

Joy has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Deaf Culture Studies from North Central University and a Master of Science in Education from Capella University.  Joy and Matthew, her husband of 17 years, have three children enrolled at Oakland Christian School. The Thomassen family attends Lifepoint Christian Church.

Deep Hope: By being unified to God’s heart and action, we will enter His eternal covenant of closeness and goodness for generations (Jeremiah 32:39-40).

Nicole Yatooma

Nicole Yatooma graduated from Taylor University with a Bachelor of Science degree in education and a minor in Psychology. Nicole is a founding member of Yatooma’s Foundation for the Kids, serving Metro-Detroit’s children who have lost a parent, since 2003. Nicole and Norman, her high school sweetheart and husband of 24 years, have four Lady Lancers. Three of their daughters are currently attending Oakland Christian and their oldest daughter is a 2020 graduate of OCS, currently attending Biola University in California. The Yatoomas attend Bridgewood Church in Clarkston and remain grateful for the Christ-centered commitment of their OCS family.

Deep Hope: My greatest desire for OCS is to see students, parents, faculty, staff, and administration alike pursuing a deeper relationship with our Lord as we each strive together to build, equip, strengthen, teach, and serve. It is my sincere prayer and deep hope that as we train up these precious leaders of tomorrow, we are not only equipping them academically, but also emotionally, socially, and spiritually. Our children can and will impact our community, our state, and our nation, all for the Kingdom, and they will not depart from the calling that God has placed on their precious lives.
