Preparing Students

The Oakland Christian School Student Support Services Department is composed of Academic Support teachers, a Social Worker, and a Guidance Counselor. These skilled staff members provide resources and support for student growth, nourishing the God-given gifts and talents of all students in Kindergarten through 12th grade. The Student Support Services staff partners with students and their families in the areas of counseling, college and career readiness, and academic intervention.

What standardized testing does OCS offer?

Standardized testing at Oakland Christian School includes NWEA, PreACT, ACT, PSAT, SAT and AP assessments. The data from these assessments is used to support student growth, aid in middle and high school course placement and registration, and provide information to evaluate the necessity for individual academic intervention.

Does OCS offer advanced classes?

OCS offers 16 Advanced Placement (AP) courses on campus (with additional possible options online) and 3 Honors Courses. OCS also offers the AP Capstone™ diploma program―an innovative program that allows students to develop skills that matter most for college success, such as research, collaboration, and communication.

Does OCS offer dual-enrollment?

The Michigan Department of Education supports non-public school students' participation in dual enrollment. Dual enrollment is a great way for our students to advance in their studies while maintaining their high school status. At OCS, we provide dual enrollment opportunities for students who wish to take courses for both high school and college credit that are not available at our school, on a case-by-case basis.

What College and Career Tools Does OCS Use?

OCS utilizes Naviance which is an invaluable tool for students to navigate their college and career journey. With Naviance, students can research and compare different colleges and universities, explore potential careers, and set goals for their academic and personal growth. Additionally, Naviance offers tools for students to manage their college applications, request letters of recommendation, and track their application status. By using Naviance, students can make informed decisions about their future and develop a clear plan to achieve their goals

What support does OCS offer students with LEARNING DIFFERENCES?

OCS offers many ways to support our students. We develop support plans for students with diagnosed minor to moderate learning needs with the expectation that all students will complete all grade-level curriculum work. Students must complete a referral process through the Student Services Office. Support plans will provide minor interventions without modifying classwork or assessments. Please contact school administration for additional information regarding your student's learning needs.

Are tutoring services offered at OCS?

OCS provides families with several options. We offer peer-to-peer tutoring, information about professional tutoring, and resources for standardized test preparation.
