'24-'25 OCS Annual Fund "Transforming Together"

Last year we introduced our first ever OCS Annual Fund with a goal of $150,000 to support our faculty and staff, our academic and athletic programming and additional funding for tuition assistance.

In December, as we launched the "12 Days of Giving", we were humbled, honored and blessed as we watched our community join together to raise almost $147,000 in just 12 days!  Our students, grandparents, parents, alumni, staff and friends all generously invested in our students, staff and mission.  

And through the generous contributions to our annual fund we -

  • Minimized the tuition increase while still supporting our teachers
  • Purchased new lunch tables to serve all students
  • Added new slides to our elementary playground
  • Increased safety by installing new blinds and graphics on our windows 
  • Expanded our weight room in support of secondary gym classes and all high school athletic teams
  • And, of course, we began the parking lot project!

Now, as we once again prepare to join together in support of OCS through our Annual Fund, we do so with our yearly spiritual life theme, "Renewed Minds. Transformed Lives." as our foundation.

Although tuition remains our main source of operating revenue, your generous contributions will assist in the transformation and enhancement of our campus and programs. But most importantly, your support allows us to remain dedicated to the transformation happening in the lives of our students as we continue our mission to equip them for the unique purpose God has for each of them.  

So, we invite you to join us on November 1, knowing that with the funds raised this year, we are truly, “Transforming Together”.  

Our Dates

While contributions can be made throughout the year, November 1 begins a 10-day focus on joining together in support of OCS. From November 1-10, we will have a variety of fun ways to encourage participation from our students, staff, parents, alumni, grandparents, and friends - stay tuned for more details!

Our Goal

This year, our financial goal is $250,000. Yes, it is a big number, but many gifts, when combined, become powerful. We believe, that through the collective generosity of our community, we can achieve this goal!

Our Hope

Our hope is that, as a community, we have 100% participation as we come together to reach our financial goal. It is a powerful message when 100% of a community unites in support of a mission. This is why, whether it be $5 or $5,000, each gift truly matters.

Our Purpose

Contributions to the Annual Fund will continue the transformation of our campus spaces, support our faculty and staff, and enhance the academic, extracurricular, and spiritual formation programs that are transforming the lives of our students. 

Our Prayer

As we launch on November 1st, we echo the prayer received from one of our parents last year as they gave, "I pray that the school and its faculty can continue to make a meaningful difference in students and their families, so that the greater community will see their light and give God glory."

100% Participation Goal

100% participation by our OCS families is our goal. There is strength in numbers. Every gift makes a difference, no matter the amount. Family participation in the OCS Annual Fund is a key metric by which Oakland Christian School is judged when seeking outside funding from corporations and foundations. Your contribution at any level demonstrates that you are investing in the school’s mission beyond the tuition that you pay. 100% participation is seen as an indication of the financial strength of the school. Your participation in the OCS Annual Fund will directly benefit every student’s education and will create a stronger and more unified school.

Corporate Giving

Many companies run matching gift programs that will match their employees' philanthropic donations or volunteer hours (sometimes even from their spouses and retirees). Please click "Find My Employer" to see if your company has a matching gift program. Ask your employer for a matching donation form if your company qualifies. If your employer isn't listed, get in touch with them to ask if they would be willing to match your donation. 

FAQ's

Why give when I pay tuition?

Tuition covers the basic operating budget each year, but as parents, we know you desire an educational experience that is far from basic for your students! The OCS Annual Fund allows us to partner with you in Transforming Together to provide truly excellent opportunities for our students. The people, programs, and facilities that make OCS an exceptional education would not be possible without the commitment and financial support of the entire OCS community.  

Why is it important for everyone to participate?

Though not everyone has been blessed with the same resources, everyone can share in the effort. This supports our philosophy that as a community we must all work together to provide our children with the best possible education. Also, high annual fund participation is a benchmark used by donors and outside funders when deciding which of the many worthwhile schools will receive their financial support.  

If I can only make a small gift, does it make an impact?

Many small gifts, when combined, become powerful. There is strength in numbers, and the collective generosity of our donors can make a huge impact. 

Is my gift tax deductible?

Yes!  Oakland Christian School is a 501(c) 3 not-for-profit organization and all gifts are tax-deductible.

Why doesn't tuition cover all the costs?

At OCS, our operational budget is balanced each year through tuition and program fees. However, these funds cover only the basics of running the school. If tuition was increased to cover the full cost of the exceptional education students receive, many families could not afford to send their children to OCS, thus changing the culture of our school drastically. The OCS Annual Fund helps us keep tuition increases to a minimum while maintaining excellence in education.

Why not just increase tuition to cover the costs?

To make an OCS education accessible to as many students as possible, we strive to keep tuition affordable.  In addition, a gift to the school is tax deductible, whereas tuition is not. This gives each family the opportunity to write off a portion of their child’s education.
