Meet Jared Frantz

October 20, 2023
By Oakland Christian School

Join us in welcoming Jarred Frantz, our new 9th and 10th grade Bible teacher, to Oakland Christian School!

Jarred comes to us with a passion for deepening our students' connection with God. He's leading the way for our 9th graders through "The New City Catechism," a series of thought-provoking questions that will help students grow closer to God and understand their faith on a deeper level.

For our 10th graders, Jarred is guiding them through "The Triumph of Christ," a comprehensive study of the entire Bible with a focus on the book of Acts and Paul's epistles.

Jarred's favorite Bible verse, John 3:30, reflects his dedication to serving God with humility: "He must become greater; I must become less."

Let's give Jarred Frantz a warm Oakland Christian School welcome and support him as he helps our students grow in their understanding of the Lord, the scripture, and the world around them It's going to be an incredible year of growth and discovery!

Join us in welcoming Emily Bourque to Oakland Christian School!

Emily Bourque has joined us as the 6th-grade Bible Teacher. Emily's enthusiasm for teaching is truly inspiring! She is most excited to watch our 6th graders grow in their love for Jesus this year.

Her favorite Bible verses, Ecclesiastes 3:1-4, remind us of the beauty of God's timing:
1     There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under the heavens:
2     a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,
3     a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,
4     a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,

Let's give Emily a warm Oakland Christian School welcome and support her in her mission to guide our 6th graders this year. We're excited to see the incredible impact she'll have on their lives!

2022 Excellence in Education Awards

April 26, 2022
By Oakland Christian School

In participation with the Auburn Hills Chamber of Commerce, we were thrilled to nominate students, Matthew Douglas (5th grade), Joesey DeLong (8th grade), and Zanaria Ware (12th grade) for the 2022 Excellence in Education Awards.

Excellence in Education celebrates qualities of excellence within students and their educators. Students are selected based on character, community service, academics, and involvement in extracurricular activities.

Excellence in Education Award Winners

As part of the program, the selected students name a teacher who has made a significant impact in their lives. Mrs. Hosmer was nominated by Matthew Douglas, Mrs. Gross was nominated by Joesey Delong, and Mrs. Hall was nominated by Zanaria Ware.

In addition to the Excellence in Education Award that Zanaria received, she also was awarded the Forvia Future Leader Scholarship. The following testimonies were submitted by our award winners about their significant-impact educators.

"I have attended Oakland Christian School since Kindergarten. Mrs. Hosmer was my fourth-grade teacher. She is nice and was fun to have as a teacher. Mrs. Hosmer created games for us to play to help us learn our subjects. My favorite game was “Math Basketball.” We also did several different projects during the year. One of my favorite projects was “The Oregon Trail” in Social Studies. She helped us learn about the hardships that the people experienced and how it is important to prepare for things in life. Mrs. Hosmer is also always very kind. She started a Friendship Club to teach us about being kind to others. I am glad I have the chance to recognize her as one of my favorite teachers." - Matthew Douglas

"The teacher that has helped me be where I am today is Mrs. Gross. I have always struggled a little with math and did not have a lot of courage trying to work it out by myself. Mrs. Gross started tutoring me in 6th grade. She always would encourage me and build me up even when I doubted myself. Whenever I had a homework problem, math test, or an exam she would always be there to help me and build up my strength and confidence. I am so very thankful and blessed that I have had the privilege of Mrs. Gross being my teacher." -Joesey DeLong

"I nominated Mrs. Hall as I have been extremely grateful to have her in my life. Although she never taught me in a class she has gone above and beyond to support me as I transitioned from the International Technology Academy. She was a constant encouragement, pushed me not to fall behind, and celebrated with me my successes. She also filled in the parental gaps that have been missing in my life. When my grandma passed away, she organized a Christmas surprise of gifts from Oakland Christian school teachers and staff. For that simple act of kindness and so many others, I am very grateful." -Zanaria Ware

Congratulations to both students and teachers!

Wall of Faith: Laura (Johnson) Hall

January 01, 2019
By Oakland Christian School

Laura (Johnson) Hall has experienced much of her life at and with Oakland Christian School. She is the daughter of Steve (Class of ‘74) and Sheila Johnson; she married Luke Hall (Class of ’02) in the summer of 2010 and is mom to Clay (future Class of ‘31) and Lucy (future Class of ’33), both currently attending OCS, and became a host mom to 2012 International Graduate, Randall Chen.

Laura is a second-generation, K-12 graduate from OCS, Class of 2002. She was an excellent student who played OCS basketball in grades 5-12 and participated in high school drama productions in grades 10-12. Very involved in her high school studies and holding to friendships with both peers and teachers, when asked of her plans for the future, she quipped, “I want to teach high school English at OCS”.

After graduation, Laura attended Oakland University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree, majoring in English and Biology and earning a Michigan Teaching Certificate. While at Oakland University, she volunteered each year to help with the OCS high school drama productions. Laura enrolled at Wayne State University where she earned a Master of Arts Degree in teaching with an emphasis on Secondary English Education Curriculum.

An OCS High School English teaching position opened following Laura's graduation from Oakland University and she accepted the challenge to begin her OCS teaching career in the fall of 2006. She quickly became a quality English teacher and a dynamic instructional partner to Ann Klein. Many students have benefited from her teaching of English 9 & 10, Speech, College Writing, Research Writing, Foundations of Christianity, American Language and Culture, AP Language and Composition, AP Biology, and AP Seminar through the years.

In 2014, Laura assumed the OCS Secondary Library position, which she continues to supervise. In addition to her library responsibilities, Laura has trained to teach the current and upcoming AP Capstone Seminar classes. In an already busy schedule at OCS, she serves as Science Department Head and has coached five seasons of middle school girls' basketball and one year of junior varsity basketball. She coached girls' bowling, worked with the high school drama productions, and served as a Student Council sponsor. Laura was also very influential in the development of the International Student Program in its early years.

Although naturally quiet, her words carry strength and purpose. She listens and responds wisely to the needs of the school, the students, and her co-workers are always honest and genuine while faithful to demonstrate compassion. Laura completes the goals that face her thoughtful consideration and intelligent efficiency, and OCS depends on her for much!  She has a deep and personal faith in Jesus and her Savior and her faith is evident in her daily ministry at our school.

Oakland Chrisitan School takes this opportunity to recognize Laura Hall to its Wall of Faith in gratitude for the many openhanded and openhearted contributions that she brings daily to OCS and in grateful anticipation of continued experiences as she shares God's love for years to come.
